Kia ora, and thanks for visiting The Monster Company. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit our website, buy from us or sign up to our emails, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We follow the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect

Information you give us - Contact details: your name, email address, phone number and delivery address - Order details: what you buy, gift messages, and the names or words you'd like on a custom piece - Messages: emails and messages you send us - Reviews: the name, rating, comments and photos you share when you review a product

Information collected automatically When you use our website, we and the services we use collect some information automatically. This includes your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you visit, what you add to your cart, and how you arrived at our site. We collect this using cookies, pixels and similar technologies (see "Cookies and tracking" below).

We never see or store your full card details. Payments are handled securely by our payment providers.

How we use your information

  • To process, make and deliver your order, including custom pieces
  • To contact you about your order, and to send a reminder if you leave items in your cart or checkout
  • To send you news, new products and offers by email, if you've signed up. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
  • To ask you to review your purchase
  • To understand how people use our website so we can improve it
  • To measure and, if we advertise, show ads for The Monster Company on other sites, such as Facebook, Instagram and Google
  • To meet our legal and accounting obligations

Who we share it with

We only share your information with services that help us run our shop:

  • Shopify: our online store, checkout and email platform (including Shopify Email)
  • Payment providers: Shopify Payments, PayPal and Afterpay, if you choose to pay that way
  • Delivery partners: NZ Post and PostHaste couriers, plus GoSweetSpot, which we use to manage shipping
  • Judge.me: to collect and show product reviews
  • Google: Google Analytics, to understand how our website is used, and Google Ads, to measure and show our ads if we advertise with Google
  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram): the Meta pixel, to measure and show our ads if we advertise on Facebook or Instagram

Some of these services store information outside New Zealand, for example in Australia, Canada, the United States or Europe. We choose providers that protect personal information in a way comparable to New Zealand law.

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information if the law requires it.

Cookies and tracking

Cookies are small files saved on your device. We use:

  • Required: to make the site work, such as remembering your cart. These are always on.
  • Personalization: to remember what you did on the site and tailor your next visit
  • Marketing: Meta and Google pixels, which let us measure ads and, if we advertise, show them to people who have visited our site
  • Analytics: Google Analytics and Shopify, to see how the site is used

When you first visit, our cookie banner lets you accept or decline cookies, or choose which types to allow under "Manage preferences". You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings. You can manage your ad preferences with Facebook, Instagram and Google in those accounts.

How long we keep it

We keep order information for as long as we need it to provide our service and meet tax and accounting rules (usually 7 years). If you unsubscribe from our emails, we stop sending them but keep a record that you unsubscribed.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we don't need to keep it. Just email us and we'll respond within 20 working days.

If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, please talk to us first. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

Keeping it safe

We use trusted providers with secure, encrypted checkout, and we only let the people who need it access your information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated.
